Eliza, was a member of the aristocracy before she willingly left her station to marry Peter Cottonill, a lower class man. It was like something out of a romance novel for a time. Reality struck when her family largely broke ties with her for that, but this was something she accepted would happen. Through hardships, the couple persevered and eventually, they were blessed with several miracles. Peter studied and eventually found a career as an automotive engineer in a respectable firm. Eliza pursued her dreams and started up an online publishing business. Along the way, they had several children with their middle child being the most rambunctious of the lot. Cecile Cottonill was born into the world.
Cecile when she was young was a lot quieter than she is today. She believed that magic and monsters existed in the world and would keep her head in the stories her mother and father would read her. She's familiar with the Arthurian legends and one of the figures that she most admired was Erza Scarlet for being a hero that rose above impossible odds and brutal conditions to prove herself. The fact that she was the only female knight among the round table figures added a good deal to her fascination. Eventually, she found her voice when she defended a much quieter girl from some older bullies. It was her first fight and the girl, Flora, became the first friend she would ever make. The two were inseparable and together, after Cecile shared her interests in these tales of heroism, she shared a vow together to protect each other and those around them. That vow, in her mind, was what gave her the right to call herself a knight.
Eventually, years passed and the two parted ways, but Cecile grew even bolder. She learned how to defend herself and fight from videos, challenged herself by reading tales and adventures at a higher reading level, and went around school, challenging any and all bullies. Of course, though, that earned herself a reputation as a bully and a problem child by many of her peers and educators. But several developed a soft spot for her. She brainstormed a costume design with her elder sister who aspires to become a designer and took to the streets with it, taking on older kids and scarily enough, some adults. She was arrested on one occasion, though sent to her parents and let off with a stern warning. A local legend started spreading around the streets of London of a "would-be superhero girl". Her parents were, naturally, concerned about her and her penchant for getting into trouble. What future would she have if she can't help but pick fights with people?
Peter would have to go on a business trip over to Japan, but he believed this might be a good opportunity for Cecile to see the world. Broaden her perspectives. He took her along with him to Fuyuki where they'll be staying at a family friend's home.
Though her knight duties were put on hold, that didn't stop her from adventuring through the quiet city. She took to sneaking into abandoned or even condemned houses for the thrill of it. In one of the attics was a strange sight and something that could have properly been out of a horror film. It was a manacle large enough to hold a child, alongside texts and papers strewn everywhere... written in English. It was then when Cecile accidentally became part of the Holy Grail War.

Neither the humble Cottonill family nor the prestigious Angora-Calbot family has an ounce of magic in them. Though not a magus, she was selected to become a contender in the Holy Grail War. Cecile is lacking in magical ability, but she is willing to use any advantage that comes her way. Her small size and superior speed when fighting hand to hand, her ability to fix traps and "pranks", and her willingness to cheat are all strengths.
